Alpharetta police have arrested one of two suspects wanted in connection with a shooting at an apartment complex Thursday that left a man dead.

Zion Azure Heyward turned himself in Tuesday, according to Alpharetta police. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of murder, robbery and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting that killed Victor J. Lazo.

A second suspect, Jaycob Lawrence Allen-Jones, remains at large.

Investigators said Heyward and Allen-Jones were Lazo’s neighbors at the Manchester at Mansell apartments, where Lazo was killed Thursday night. Officers found the man, who is in his 20s, dead in the parking lot in front of his building when they responded about 10:30 p.m., Alpharetta police spokesman Officer Jeffrey Ross said.

Alpharetta police homicide investigators worked through the night Thursday gathering evidence at the Manchester at Mansell apartments off Mansell and Old Roswell roads.

Lazo’s sister told investigators she heard her brother arguing with someone outside shortly before gunfire erupted. Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s security camera showed two men running away seconds after the deadly shooting, Ross said in an emailed statement.

“Once detectives arrived on scene, they began interviewing the victim’s family and witnesses,” he said. Police learned the two men who ran from the scene also lived at the complex, and they were later identified from a photo lineup as Heyward and Allen-Jones.

Police said Allen-Jones should be considered “armed and dangerous.” Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911, or contact Detective Jakai Braithwaite at 678-297-6338 or jabraithwaite@alpharetta.ga.us.
