Metro Atlanta residents are in store for another warm day to round out the weekend.
Sunday’s high is expected to reach 87 degrees, which is slightly cooler than average for the time of year, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon. It should be great weather for getting outside, though an isolated shower or two is possible later in the day.
“Most of you will stay rain-free, but make sure to keep that umbrella close by,” Deon said. “There’s a small chance that we could see a stray shower or storm developing through the afternoon.”
While the chance of rain increases for the second half of the weekend, it will probably hold off in most areas, according to the latest forecast.
“We’ll be watching for showers and storms to develop mainly to our south before kind of lifting up to the north as we go through the day,” Deon said.
Atlanta drivers may have some stadium traffic to compete with this weekend. The Atlanta Hawks are back at home for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday evening. The Hawks are looking to win their second game of the series after getting blown out Friday night in Milwaukee.
Drivers should expect delays downtown near State Farm Arena ahead of the 8:30 p.m. tipoff. Atlanta United is also playing at home Sunday afternoon as they host the New York Red Bulls at 3:30 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
There are also several road projects planned this weekend that could lead to delays on metro Atlanta’s roadways.
In Clayton County, lane closures will be installed in both directions of I-75 at the I-285 interchange, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
And in DeKalb County, drivers can expect overnight lane closures along stretches of I-85 as crews work to repair bridges between Shallowford Road and Chamblee Tucker Road, GDOT said.
The chance of rain drops to just 10% on Monday as metro Atlanta residents can expect plenty of sunshine and a high of nearly 90 degrees to kick off the weekend. Storms are expected to return Tuesday and Wednesday, however,
