Keep that umbrella handy for the second half of the weekend.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected across metro Atlanta on Sunday, and the rain could stick around for the next several days, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
While it may not be a complete washout, the chance of afternoon showers is about 60%, according to the latest forecast.
“We are going to see those rain chances going up,” Deon said. “On Sunday, we could see a passing shower early in the day and a few more clouds. By the time we get into the afternoon, a few more showers and storms will be around.”

The soggy conditions should help cool things off across metro Atlanta. Sunday’s high is only expected to reach 86 degrees in the city, setting the tone for cooler temperatures through the first half of the workweek, Deon said.
There’s a 60% chance of storms again on Monday, and the wet weather is expected to stick around through at least Wednesday as Tropical Depression Fred makes its way across the Gulf of Mexico. Heavy rain is expected across North Georgia for the next several days as temperatures drop into the low-80s, Deon said.
Weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation will install overnight lane closures this weekend as crews work to complete several road projects.
Drivers in north Fulton should expect overnight delays on Ga. 400 as crews resurface the northbound lanes between I-85 and I-285, GDOT said. The road work is part of an ongoing $5 million project.
In downtown Atlanta, drivers might run into game-related delays near Mercedes-Benz Stadium as Atlanta United kicks off its home stretch against Los Angeles FC. The game begins at 4 p.m.
Drivers can also expect late-night lane closures on I-85 North this weekend as crews replace pavement markings between the Brookwood Interchange in Fulton County and Clairmont Road in DeKalb.
Elsewhere in DeKalb County, drivers could see overnight backups near the I-285/I-675 interchange for an ongoing bridge rehabilitation project, GDOT said. All lanes should reopen in time for Monday morning’s commute.
