State to offer grants to groups that provide summer meals to children

Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning will offer grants of up to $20,000 to groups that provide summer meals to children.

To be eligible for the grants, which will range from $4,000 to $20,000, groups must already be approved to provide meals or snacks to children this summer. They have to continue serving meals and snacks at sites they used last year, and they must serve more meals than they did the year before. A group could also be eligible for grant assistance if it serves children in one or more rural counties, including: Baker, Ben Hill, Columbia, Early, Echols, Hancock, Haralson, Heard, Lee, Lincoln, Marion, Peach, Schley, Seminole, Stewart, Taliaferro, Taylor, Warren, and Webster.

Grant funds can be used for food preparation, equipment and supplies, storage and food delivery.
