Long-serving corrections officers could keep their firearms when they retire under a bill signed into law Thursday by Gov. Nathan Deal.
House Bill 482 allows former employees of the Department of Corrections and Pardons & Paroles to keep their department-issued duty weapon when they leave. Only employees who have worked at least 20 years as a certified officer are eligible.
Deal also signed a separate measure, House Bill 298, that creates an agriculture commodity commission for products grown in Georgia. The funding for the commission would come from companies that use the “Georgia Grown” trademark.
