Marietta police are investigating the killing of the son of a taxi driver during a robbery.
Police found a wounded 22-year-old Tomas Arriola at a Franklin Road convenience store Wednesday at 1:45 p.m., said Officer David Baldwin. Arriola had been shot while riding with his father, cabbie Tomas Arriola Sr., after they had had driven a couple of fares to the nearby St. Augustine Condominiums, Baldwin said.
“One of the two suspects in the back seat brandished a handgun and attempted to rob the two victims,” Baldwin said in an email. “In light of this incident the Marietta Police Department has designated specialized patrols for the Franklin Road corridor that will operate around the clock until further notice.”
After one suspect shot the younger man both robbers ran away with an undisclosed amount of money. The driver drove his son to the convenience store to find help. His son died at Kennestone Hospital, Baldwin said.
Detectives are currently following up on several leads. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
