A funeral will be held Saturday for a recent Cedartown High School graduate killed in a wreck early Sunday in Floyd County.

Justin Terry Payton, 18, was driving one of two vehicles that collided just after midnight Sunday at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Booger Hollow Road near Rome. He died at the scene.

Payton, who graduated earlier this year, was a drummer in the Cedartown High band. On Sunday, he was remembered on the band’s Facebook page:

“We are heartbroken beyond words as we remember a special young man who is part of our band family. We love Justin and his family as one of our own. He was one of a kind and will always have a special place in our hearts.”

Payton’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gammage Funeral Home in Cedartown.

Payton was one of 14 people killed in wrecks across Georgia over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Last year, 15 people died during the holiday period, which ended at midnight Sunday.
