The state Senate Tuesday named one of its former members to the board that oversees voting and elections in Georgia.

By a vote of 50 to 1, the Senate approved Senate Resolution 403, which appoints former Sen. Seth Harp to the State Election Board. Harp left the Senate in 2010 for an unsuccessful bid to become state insurance commissioner. He's a Columbus attorney and has served as chairman of the Muskogee County Republican Party.

Harp will serve a two-year term on the board. He replaces Claud "Tex" McIver, who is facing criminal charges after fatally shooting his wife.

Tex McIver's attorneys say they will have to go to the other judge to settle this.
