Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, as participating shops nationwide and internationally give away Avengers, X-Men and Spider-Man comic books -- to name a few -- to customers visiting their stores.

The promotion is held annually on the first Saturday in May. Each shop has policies about how many free comics customers can receive.

For a retailer like Andre Oliver, there is no limit. The Valdosta, Georgia, shop owner will offer more than 50 free comic book titles, the Valdosta Daily Times reported.

"Free Comic Book Day is a great opportunity for new, lapsed and hardcore collectors to come in and check out the offers from different publishers," Oliver told the newspaper. "It's a great opportunity for parents to come in and receive free comics that will encourage their kids to read."

You can find a participating shop here.
