South Downtown Residential Development

Newport plans to break ground on its first residential projects in South Downtown in 2023.

Newport said the two residential high-rises will fit the “intimate, creative and street-oriented vibe" of the surrounding South Downtown area.

Newport's residential project along South Broad Street will transform two city blocks.

Newport announced Sept. 19, 2022, it will build two residential towers along South Broad Street between MLK JR. Drive and Mitchell Street.

The two high-rises will be 19 and 21 stories tall, respectively. Newport expects to deliver both buildings by 2025.

Newport's buildings will also include ground-level retail and restaurant space, including about 7,000 square feet reserved for below-market rates.

Newport plans to build 650 apartments spread across two towers in South Downtown. The apartments will be a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom units.
