Snow, single-digit wind chill forecast in Atlanta on Tuesday

A blast of arctic air is expected to produce snow flurries and possible accumulation in North Georgia down to Atlanta on Tuesday.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologists said the best chance for snow is late Tuesday into Wednesday in the mountains, which could see 1 inch or more of accumulation. Closer to Atlanta, expect no more than a 1/4 inch.

“Snowfall amounts across the metro Atlanta area, they could be maybe a trace, maybe a dusting of snow,” meteorologist Glenn Burns said. “Again, the higher elevations you’re looking at 1 to 2 inches of snow here.”

The fast-moving weather front will sweep through quickly, leaving freezing temperatures behind.

“If you don’t dress appropriately, you’re going to be in trouble,” Burns said. “Those wind chills are anywhere from 5 above to 5 below zero.”

Before the front moves through the region, Tuesday will be a partially sunny day with high temperatures around 46 degrees. But lows could dip in the teens overnight.

Channel 2 Action News reports that a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for northwest Georgia beginning Tuesday morning. Later that evening, the light snow could initially be mixed with rain. Flurries are expected to continue into the night.

The Winter Weather Advisory is set to expire on Wednesday morning.

Temperatures should warm back up in time for the weekend.
