The former president and CEO of First National Bank in Savannah was sentenced Tuesday to more than three years in federal prison for fraud.

Heys Edward McMath III, 59, along with a group of six other former bank officials, was named in a 41-count indictment stemming from a nearly $10 million fraud scheme, according to the Savannah Morning News. Charges included conspiracy and bank fraud.

McMath will also be subject to a three-year supervised release following his time in prison in addition to paying restitution for his share in the millions of dollars stolen.

As part of a negotiated plea, McMath pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in November.

The Morning News reported U.S. District Chief Judge Lisa Godby Wood granted McMath a lower sentence largely because of his assistance to the prosecution.
