Scattered showers are possible to kick off the weekend, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, those looking to spend their Saturday getting started on Christmas decorations are in luck.

Scattered showers are possible to kick off the weekend, but the wet weather is expected to clear out quickly, leaving behind a sunny afternoon with above averages temperatures, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

“By early Saturday morning, we’ll see the rain coming to an end,” Deon said. “So it’s another dry day in store — mainly dry on Saturday — and it’s going to be warmer than normal with highs in the mid- and upper 60s.”

Enjoy the weather while you can. North Georgia is in store for a very soggy Sunday with much cooler temperatures ahead, according to the latest forecast.

“Sunday starts off cloudy and then the rain moves in,” Deon said, adding there’s the possibility of severe weather south of metro Atlanta late Sunday night and into Monday morning. Severe storms are expected, including heavy rain and damaging wind gusts.

Farther north, the weather should be milder, but metro Atlanta residents should still expect a soggy second half to the weekend. Flooding is possible in some areas as North Georgia could see up to 2 inches of rain, Deon warned.

The chance of showers jumps to 70% on Sunday as temperatures in Atlanta are expected to reach a high of just 59 degrees ahead of a big cooldown.

Monday’s high will be about 10 degrees colder, and Tuesday morning’s low is expected to be a frosty 28 degrees with an afternoon high of just 43.

If the precipitation sticks around until temperatures start to drop Monday night, those living in the North Georgia mountains could even see snowfall, Deon said.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has suspended construction projects over the holiday travel period, but drivers on metro Atlanta’s interstates could still see delays this weekend as families head back into town.

Construction projects are expected to resume at 5 a.m. Monday, GDOT said.
