The cold weather is sticking around on Saturday, but thankfully there’s no rain in the forecast.

The weekend is off to a brisk start, with temperatures at 32 degrees in metro Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Jennifer Lopez. It should be a sunny day, but the afternoon high is only expected to reach 51 degrees, she said.

“Make sure you bring a heavy coat with you for the next few hours because it’s quite cold out there,” Lopez said. “There’s plenty of sunshine and barely a cloud in the sky, but don’t let that sun fool you.”

Clouds will move into metro Atlanta overnight, which should keep temperatures a few degrees warmer heading into the second half of the weekend, according to the latest forecast. Unfortunately, those clouds will bring moisture that increases the chance of rain through early Sunday afternoon.

There’s a 60% chance of showers on Sunday morning, but the rain isn’t expected to be very widespread. It will be slightly warmer to start the day, but tomorrow’s high is only expected to reach 50 degrees. The clouds are expected to move out by mid-afternoon on Sunday, clearing the way for a sunny start to the workweek.

“We will warm up,” Lopez said. “Right before the holiday we’ll see some beautiful weather coming our way with temperatures near 60 degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday.”

The Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects planned this weekend that could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates.

Maintenance activities on I-285 North near East Ponce de Leon Avenue and Church Street in DeKalb County will moderately impact traffic starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, GDOT reported. The right lane of four will be closed until 3:30 p.m.

Rolling closures on I-285 East near Riverside Drive will also have a moderate effect on traffic from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, GDOT said.

Construction activities on 14th Street near Barnes Street in Midtown may cause heavy delays since two lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to GDOT.

Further south, construction on I-75 North near Ga. 331 in Clayton County will also impact drivers until 11:30 p.m. Saturday, GDOT said.
