Atlanta police closed the intersection of North Avenue and Luckie Street downtown while they investigated an apparent road-rage shooting Thursday morning.

A man drove himself to a hospital Thursday morning after he said another driver opened fire on him at a downtown Atlanta red light.

The 41-year-old victim told police he was sitting at the light at North Avenue and Luckie Street when the other driver got out of a gray Ford Explorer and started shooting. He was struck several times, according to Atlanta police.

The man drove himself to Emory Midtown Hospital and was stable after the shooting, police spokesman Officer Steve Avery said.

“Investigators believe this may have been a road-rage incident, but the investigation is continuing,” Avery said in a statement.

Police have not located the driver of the Explorer.

An investigation briefly shut down the intersection of North and Luckie until the scene was cleared about 6:20 a.m. Several evidence markers were seen in the street.
