Some roads will be closed in south Cobb County on Friday before a funeral service for an officer killed in the line of duty.

The funeral for Smyrna Officer Christopher Eric Ewing will be held at 11 a.m. at Truist Park. Ewing, 34, was killed on April 20 when his patrol car was struck by a suspected drunk driver.

The funeral will be closed to the public and only family, uniformed officers and military members will be allowed to attend. But community members are asked to line the streets, remaining at least 6 feet apart from others, for a procession from Carmichael Funeral Home to the stadium.

At 9 a.m., patrol cars and other emergency vehicles are expected to escort the hearse with Ewing’s casket and will travel the following route:

• Church Street to Atlanta Road

• South on Atlanta Road

• East on Spring Street

• Across Cobb Parkway onto Circle 75 Parkway

• Onto Battery Avenue to Truist Park

Road closures are expected to last until approximately 10:15 a.m. Roads affected include:

• Atlanta Road closed between Fleming Street and Concord/Spring Roads

• Spring Road between Atlanta Road and Cobb Parkway

• Cobb Parkway will be closed at Spring Road while the procession crosses Cobb Parkway

• Circle 75 Parkway will be closed between Windy Ridge Parkway and Cobb Parkway

• Church Street will be closed from Davis Street to Atlanta Road

Officers from across metro Atlanta are expected to attend the funeral Friday. Dozens of law enforcement agencies participated in a procession late last week to escort the fallen officer to the funeral home. A GoFundMe page has been created to assist Ewing's family.
