The rain in metro Atlanta will end Monday night, but it will be back.

“In the five-day forecast, we’re going to have several opportunities for some showers and even some thunderstorms,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said Monday.

Heavier rain moved from northwest Paulding County to Gwinnett County on Monday afternoon. But much of Fulton County avoided the downpours.

“But as we head into the evening, I expect the rain will come to an end,” Nitz said.

Rain cleared completely by 9 p.m., but is expected to return with a stronger punch Tuesday afternoon.

A 30 percent rain chance Monday will increase to 70 percent Tuesday before dropping to 40 percent Wednesday, Channel 2 reported.

There is also a 30 percent rain chance for Thursday.

Temperatures easily surpassed the 55-degree average high for this time of year in Atlanta. They even surpassed the expected high of 62 degrees by 2 p.m.

Temps were 61 degrees in Atlanta, 49 in Blairsville and 56 in Griffin before 9:15 p.m.

Highs are forecast to reach the 70s in Atlanta on Tuesday and Wednesday.
