Atlanta’s streetcar system, which was shut down Thursday morning after an overhead light pole fell onto a streetcar wire, was returned to service before 1:30 p.m.
The pole was knocked down when the driver of a stolen vehicle crashed into it during a police chase.
There was no damage to any streetcars or the wires, but system power was turned off temporarily.
The streetcar made its inaugural trip Dec. 30.
Officials are betting the $98 million, four-car project will reinvigorate tourism and encourage business investment along the route. It’s a form of public transit not seen in Atlanta since 1949.
It operates along a 2.7 mile loop around downtown Atlanta. Bounded mainly by Auburn and Edgewood avenues, access points include Centennial Olympic Park, the King Center, Georgia State University and the Peachtree Center MARTA rail station.
