Two northbound lanes of I-85 and the exit ramp at Riverdale Road have reopened after a fatal wreck Thursday morning involving a sport utility vehicle that police said fell 15 feet off adjacent I-285.

College Park police Officer B. Burrell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that two vehicles were involved in the wreck, which happened just after 7:30 a.m. on I-285 eastbound at Riverdale Road.

One of those vehicles, a Ford SUV, flipped over a concrete wall, falling 15 feet before landing on its roof on I-85 northbound, which runs parallel with I-285, Burrell said.

The man driving the SUV was ejected and killed. His name was being withheld late Thursday morning until relatives could be notified.

Information was not immediately available on the second vehicle or its driver.

The accident caused delays for motorists traveling north on I-85 into the city and east on I-285 going around the perimeter. Two right lanes of northbound I-85 and the exit ramp to Riverdale Road were closed for more than three hours while authorities investigated the accident and the Georgia Department of Transportation urged motorists to use alternate routes to avoid major travel delays.

All lanes reopened about 11 a.m.
