Rocket the Rusty Rooster has flown the coop, and Athens-Clarke County police are looking for his captor.
Rocket, a 10-foot-tall, 300-pound metal sculpture previosly perched outside an Athens antique store called Lexington Vintage, was stolen sometime Friday night or Saturday morning, The Associated Press reported. Store owner Bonnie Harris said the rooster — which was installed two weeks ago — helped drive business.
Harris said her husband thinks some type of tool was used to cut Rusty away because part of one foot was left in the ground. The bird was anchored into the ground with rebar stakes, The Associated Press reported.
Athens-Clarke County police said that Rocket’s estimated value was $3,000 — meaning whoever stole the sculpture could be looking at a felony.
