Police: Pedestrian killed at Cobb intersection stepped into traffic

Cobb County police Thursday afternoon were trying to identify a woman hit by a car and killed while trying to cross a busy street in the predawn darkness.
The accident happened about 5:30 a.m. on Powers Ferry Road at Windy Hill Road, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
Pierce said the woman, “for reasons unknown,” stepped into traffic.
She was hit by a 2004 Mercedes E500 and died at the scene.
Pierce said the driver stopped and called 911.
The driver, who was southbound on Powers Ferry Road and had the green light, is not expected to be charged, according to Pierce.
