A Loganville crash that left one woman dead and a man critically injured Friday appears to have involved alcohol, speed and bad weather, Police Chief Michael McHugh told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The at-fault driver lost control of his pickup truck on Lake Carleton Road at Old Loganville Road and crossed into oncoming traffic, where he collided head-on with another pickup truck, McHugh said.
“They are still working it, so everything is preliminary, but it looks like it is going to be both weather-related and alcohol-related … and maybe going too fast for conditions,” McHugh said. “It is a very curvy road and in tonight’s weather, they lost control.”
It appears the passenger in the at-fault pickup died and the driver is in critical condition, he said.
One of the people in the other vehicle also was transported to the hospital, but McHugh did not think it was for serious injuries.
Investigators are still determining whether the at-fault driver will be charged in the death, McHugh said.
