A group of pint-sized burglars smashed a vehicle through the front doors of a Clayton County pawn shop before daybreak Wednesday.

The shop’s manager was shocked when he reviewed surveillance video and saw children running through the business.

Channel 2 Action News reported the thieves drove a stolen car into Southland Pawn & Jewelry in the 6300 block of Jonesboro Road shortly before 4 a.m.

Ronald Barner, the shop’s general manager, told Channel 2 the car was “moving mighty fast” when it went all the way through the building, coming to a stop at the counters in the back of the business.

Security video then shows several boys running into the store through the shattered doors.

“By their height, I’m thinking preteen, 10 or 12 [years old],” Barner said of the boys. “That’s what’s so shocking.”

At least one of the boys was carrying a hammer, but didn’t use it.

“Look at them, they don’t even know what to do with it,” Barner said.

Barner said the boys only took about $30 in merchandise, but caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the store.

“They didn’t even get anything,” he said. “It’s just sad.”
