DeKalb County fire crews battled a massive blaze at a tow yard just outside Lithonia early Friday morning Nov. 8, 2024. Officials believe that a hybrid or electric vehicle could be to blame for the fire at South DeKalb Towing & Transport yard on Rogers Lake Road. The fire engulfed up to 75 vehicles, company owner Walter Jackson told reporters at the scene. The location also serves as DeKalb police’s south precinct impound lot.

Investigators believe a speeding tractor-trailer driver caused a crash that injured two East Point police officers on I-285 southbound near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Nov. 20, 2024. The wreck caused a traffic jam that stretched for miles and clogged the interstate for about four hours, the Georgia State Patrol said. At the crash site, at least two police cruisers could be seen with their hoods popped open and one had its back end crumpled. A trail of debris was scattered behind the big rig. A high-speed pursuit in Coweta County ended with a crash and a suspect shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with sheriff deputies. A deputy was injured and his police dog killed, according to authorities. The incident started with an attempted traffic stop on U.S. 29 near Tommy Lee Cook Road around 11 p.m. The pursuit continued into Fulton County and reached speeds of 110 mph.
