Duluth police reported Monday that they had identified the suspected shoplifter who allegedly pepper sprayed a Walmart employee who tried to stop her.

Now they just have to track her down.

Police took out warrants on Kahala Johnson for shoplifting and aggravated assault after the alleged shoplifter’s picture was distributed through the media and identified by number of people, Maj. Don Woodruff said.

Police are asking anyone who knows Johnson’s location to call 770-476-4151.

The story caused a stir after police requested help from the public last Friday in identifying the suspected shoplifter from surveillance tape.

A Walmart staffer spotted a woman stealing in the store on Pleasant Hill Road on Thursday and approached her as she left the store with a cart of items, Detective Bobby Johnson said Friday.

The woman gave the staffer a face full of pepper spray, burning the Walmart associate’s face and eyes, Johnson said.
