Two boys, ages 15 and 16, have been charged with murder after an 18-year-old high school senior was shot to death during a drug sale, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
On New Year’s Eve, deputies were called to Bryan Miller Road in the Union community, where they found Gage Elliott McGee dead inside his car, according to Cpl. Ashley Henson. Investigators believe McGee attempted to drive away after being shot and crashed his car, Henson said.
McGee, who attended South Paulding High School, had met two other teenagers to sell them drugs, Henson said. But investigators don’t believe Randy DeForrest Frederick and Trent Lee Jacobs had any intentions of paying for the drugs.
Frederick, 16, of Cartersville, and Jacobs, 15, of Dallas, were both arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery by intimidation, jail records showed. The two are being charged as adults, and were being held without bond Friday at the Paulding County jail. No details were released regarding how investigators identified the suspects.
McGee's family will receive friends Sunday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, according to an online obituary. He would have turned 19 in three weeks.
The teens were the second pair, the same age charged this week with murder in metro Atlanta. A 15-year-old from Atlanta and a 16-year-old from College Park, whose names were not released, have been charged in connection with Monday's shooting death, Clayton County police said.
