A teacher in Othello, Wash., admits he ordered a third-grader to unclog a toilet with his bare hands, and the boy's parents say Brent Taylor's actions deserve more than just a reprimand.
Artie and Lisa Adams told KEPR-TV they found out about the Nov. 6 incident when they asked their 8-year-old how his day at school went. The Scootney Springs Elementary School student told them it was fine, but his teacher "made me put my hand inside the toilet," according to Artie Adams.
"I'm still speechless," Lisa Adams told the television station.
According to records from the Othello School District, the student told Taylor the toilet was clogged, and Taylor told the boy to unclog it with his bare hands, saying, "It's nothing I haven't done before."
The Adamses complained, and the 23-year veteran teacher was reprimanded and told to review a hygiene course.
Lisa Adams said other students saw the incident and made fun of her son. The third-grader has been transferred to another school.
During KEPR-TV's review of the school documents, the news station found that Taylor has been reprimanded two other times in the past 16 months -- both times involved inappropriately touching female high school students. The school records also showed Taylor was put on leave last year after a teacher's aide said he roughly grabbed her arm in anger.
