Let’s use tech advances to stop climate change

Last week’s two articles (“2015 one of USA’s warmest, wettest” and “As the Mississippi rolls, tally on destruction keeps climbing,” Metro) together remind us of the consequences of having employed the head-in-the-sand strategy with regard to climate change. The take-home from the two articles is that we are unprepared to deal with the increasingly extreme and weird weather patterns predicted by climate science. Time to unleash American technical, business and scientific ingenuity and know-how. No question that we can quickly reduce our dependence on carbon fuel sources, build a sustainable energy infrastructure and secure our grandchildren’s futures. Technological advances to do all of this are being developed, and some are at our doorsteps (solar, wind energy, improved battery storage). What’s stopping us? Lack of political will. Please join with me in urging our public servants in Congress to enact a fee on carbon at the source.

Where’s the parent in Planned Parenthood?

It has always puzzled me as to how the organization called “Planned Parenthood” came up with its name. The definition of “parent” is one who gives birth to a child and raises that child. But Planned Parenthood’s mission is to take the lives of unborn babies. They claim that women have the right to choose. They have the right to get pregnant or not, but they don’t have the right to take the life of another. It’s also strange that aborting a baby is not a crime, but killing a baby after it is born is a crime. I can’t see the difference.

If you want to know what life means to a child, just check out such organizations as the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, St. Jude’s Hospital for children, Shriners Hospital for Children, and many others.

Life is precious, and the privilege of parenting should be taken seriously and with joy.
