A proposal to create Georgia’s first charter schools cluster met defeat last week at the DeKalb County Board of Education. Readers sound off today on the board’s rejection of the Druid Hills Charter Cluster; most condemn the “no” vote as an affirmation of the status quo. I consider the implications of the vote and the circumstances that led to the cluster campaign. In a guest column, an Emory professor and cancer researcher talks about resistance to the Common Core State Standards and whether concern about science standards is driving some of the opposition.
