Proponents of the new Common Core State Standards made it a point to put "state" in the title so no one would mistake the standards for a national curriculum. It didn't work — as seen in Cobb County, where a school board debate on new math textbooks turned into a referendum on Common Core. I write about the growing controversy, and readers offer their views. Also, an Emory graduate and Teach for America math teacher in Clayton County wonders why his high school has no graduates bound for Emory or Tech.
