With Georgia’s Nov. 2 elections approaching, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s editorial page offers a series of interviews with candidates in key statewide races: governor, state school superintendent, lieutenant governor, labor commissioner and attorney general.

Our view is that these edited transcripts from conversations with those who would next lead Georgia can help you learn more about them prior to Election Day.

The Editorial Board’s questions to electoral hopefuls are built around our Atlanta Forward theme, which is intended to help our metro region find progressive ways in which to beat back the Great Recession’s lingering effects.

The state’s future leaders will play a large role in that effort as Atlanta and Georgia continue to search for ways to balance budget shortfalls, reduce transportation congestion and improve Georgia’s schools, among other issues. The Atlanta region, Georgia and our nation stand at a watershed hour, facing important issues. We must choose well when we cast ballots Nov. 2.
