Today’s education page offers arguments for and against the proposed annexation of Druid Hills in unincorporated DeKalb County into the city of Atlanta. Those favoring annexation say incorporation is inevitable, and Atlanta offers more efficient and representative government as well as being a city on the rise. Opponents counter that those seeking annexation are acting hastily in response to the Druid Hills charter cluster denial by the DeKalb school board, and annexation would divide the community and sacrifice its diversity. In a third column, readers respond to Gov. Nathan Deal’s plan to create a special state school district to take over failing schools.
