One person was injured Monday morning when her car slammed into a building at Five Points in downtown Atlanta, police said.
The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Edgewood Avenue, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told Channel 2 Action News.
According to APD spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon, 53-year-old Sandra Bradshaw told police that she tried to stop her vehicle but it would not slow down. It crossed into lanes of oncoming traffic, struck the sidewalk and then the building.
Bradshaw had visible injuries on her legs, Lyon said, but refused medical treatment.
She was cited for failure to maintain lane and striking a fixture.
Authorities began working late Monday morning to determine the structural integrity of the building, on which the iconic neon Coca-Cola sign is mounted. Atlanta Fire spokeswoman Janet Ward said Monday afternoon that the building had been determined to be structurally sound.
