WASHBURN (CARTER), Marie
Marie Carter Washburn of Peachtree City, GA passed away peacefully on October 31, 2021. She was born in Hiltons, VA on June 27, 1939 to the late John and Laura (O'Neal) Carter. She and her beloved brother, Neal, were raised by Harrison "Harry" and Lucinda McNutt after her mother's death and her father's deployment to the Navy to World War II. Marie was a teacher before becoming principal of Cliftondale Elementary School and later principal of Seaborn Lee Elementary School. She retired in 1996 and then served as a volunteer with many local organizations until the pandemic began. Marie is survived by her son, B. Scott Washburn (Sandy) of Melbourne Beach, FL; daughter, Kristi Rapson (Steve) of Sharpsburg, GA; and son, Thomas Washburn (Shanon) of Milton, GA; grandchildren, Shelley Walton (David), Brent Washburn (Kiley), Shane Washburn, Stephanie Rapson, Andrew Rapson (Cortnee), Sarah Beth Rapson, Wes Washburn, and Carter Washburn; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Dogwood Church in Tyrone, GA. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in Hiltons, VA. Memorial donations may be made to the Real Life Center at reallifecenter.org or to a library of your choosing.
