GOULD (SHANNON), Julia
Julia Elizabeth Shannon Gould passed away peacefully on September 6, 2021. Julie was born March 11, 1942 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada and was the daughter of Robert P. Shannon and Elizabeth Newson Shannon. A fighter pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force, her father was killed in action in WW II while Julie was an infant.
Julie received her BSN from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. While attending the University of Michigan where she received her MS, Julie met her future husband, Dr. Joseph P. Gould. Following a brief time in Boston, the couple moved to Atlanta in 1977 when Joe accepted a teaching position at Georgia Tech University. Julie was employed as the Nursing Education Consultant for the Georgia Board of Nursing in the Secretary of State's Office, a position she held for 33 years. In her professional career Julie served on numerous boards, including the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. In 2012 Julie received the Council's Exceptional Contribution Award, and upon her retirement the Georgia Legislature recognized Julie for her outstanding contributions to the Board of Nursing.
In addition to her father, Julie was preceded in death by her husband and her mother. She is survived by her brother, Norman Roaf of Vancouver, B.C., numerous cousins and friends. A private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of British Columbia School of Nursing, 500-5950 University Blvd., Vancouver, B.C.
