ESSEX, Jr., Grant Reynolds

Grant Reynolds Essex, Jr. went home to the Lord on October 30, 2021.

Grant "Skip" was born on September 7, 1945 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta. His parents were Annis Rogers Essex and Grant R. Essex, Sr. He grew up in DeKalb County, GA, attending public schools. Grant matriculated to the University of Georgia in 1963, ultimately graduating from Georgia State University in 1967 with a BBA in Management & Finance.

Grant's extensive career was spent primarily in banking. His early years were with C&S Bank in Atlanta. He spent 12 years with the First Chicago Corporation in Chicago, Houston, London and Atlanta. At mid-career, Grant moved to community banking with successive positions as President of The Buckhead Bank, President of The Chattahoochee Bank and President of Milton National Bank. He was truly a fixture in the Atlanta banking scene. After retiring from banking, he owned and operated a large snow ski shop in Atlanta and then finished his career as a financial consultant in the banking industry.

Grant is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Nancy Wade Essex, his children, Grant R. Essex III (Patricia) of Greenville, SC, Sara Essex Bradley (Mike) of New Orleans, LA, Matthew Reynolds Essex (Shannon) of Houston, TX, Michael Wade Essex (Jessica) of Denver, CO, and Allison Leigh Essex (Jose) of Atlanta, GA. Grant has 13 grandchildren (Laura, Clare, Will, Ben, Sophie, Madeleine, Dylan, Brayden, Dayde, Brooklyn, Sarah, Lexi and Hailie). Also his sister, Leigh Walker (Jeff), nephew Kirk (Lindsey) of Atlanta, GA, his brother-in-law, Mark Wade (Julia) and nephews, Walker and William of Fort Worth, TX. All of whom were truly the joy of his life in retirement.

Grant was an Eagle Scout, past President of the Rotary Club of Buckhead, a past director of The Boy Scouts of America – Atlanta Area Council, past Director of the Tommy Nobis Center, past Member of the Buckhead Coalition, past member of Cherokee Town and Country Club and was involved with many other community and business associations. Throughout his life, he was an avid runner, golfer and traveler, and he truly enjoyed being outdoors hiking and camping. He was a member of Alpharetta First United Methodist Church.

The family will receive visitors from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 4th at Northside Chapel in Roswell. A memorial celebration of life will be held at 2 PM on Friday, November 5th at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alpharetta First United Methodist Church in Grant's memory.
