A billboard in East Austin for the upcoming Texas Firearm Festival has been vandalized, marking out a few of the letters to spell “Texas Fear Festival.”
The billboard is located at East 11th and Wheeless streets and advertises for the outdoor gun festival. Organizers for the festival learned of the vandalism Friday morning.
In a statement, they said they were amused by the transformation of the billboard.
“Just in time for Halloween!” festival organizer Lee Johnson wrote in an emailed statement. “We sincerely hope that the people responsible will contact us for free tickets to the Texas Firearms Festival, although they’ll have to provide proof that they’re responsible for this act of vandalism, which we may be tempted to turn over to the Austin police. You know, as a matter of civic duty.”
The festival is slated for Nov. 14-15 in Liberty Hill and expects to attract 3,000 gun enthusiasts.
Organizers noted that the billboard had already been featured on one Austin blog, Hipstercrite, and said that they are firm believers that there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Johnson said they had not yet reported the vandalism to the police.
