Forget the promposals: Proms for the pre-kindergarten set are starting to become all the rage.
You read that right: pre-K proms for children who are barely out of diapers.
Parents are plunking down big bucks for their preschool kids to get dolled up and have a night, or at least an afternoon, on the town, WCBS reported.
The proms have nearly everything the teen versions have - makeup, flowers, matching outfits, DJs and photographers.
And photos are being posted to parents' social media sites.
But is the traditionally grownup event too much for young kids?
A child psychologist says the tradition could blur the lines between childhood and the teen years.
"One of the biggest consequences is that you are missing out on the innocence of childhood, of just playing around, and not having to think about what people think of you," Dr. Sanam Hafeez told WCBS.
Hafeez said proms should be a reward for hard work, and by having a prom at the age of 5 or so, parents are telling children that every accomplishment will have a celebration attached to it and it sends the wrong message.
Parents are firing back, saying that pre-K proms give children a chance to have fun.
