Former foster child gets birthday wish after posting Craigslist ad to rent family

A former foster child's wish has come true after her touching request to "rent" a family for her birthday went viral.
According to KMGH-TV in Denver, 19-year-old Natalie Carson of Westminster, Colorado, was raised in foster care but aged out of the system when she turned 18. She said she once had an adoptive family but was abused in the home, so she was placed back in foster care at age 12.
This year, she decided to post a Craigslist ad to find a family to spend time with on her birthday this month.

"I am not a weirdo or anything; I was just inspired by another girl that rented a family from Craigslist in California for the holidays," she wrote in the ad posted last week. "I just want one day that I can feel important and special, and like I matter even if I really don't. I have never had a good birthday, so I figure, why not this birthday?"

Carson's story quickly went viral nationally and internationally, leading to an overwhelming number of emails in her inbox. By Friday, she had found a Colorado family to celebrate her birthday with.

She said that although she is happy for the support, she is requesting not to be contacted anymore. She hopes that anyone interested in her story will give to foster children and the organizations that support them.

"There's something more, you know, than just me because there's a million more of me," Carson said.
