One man was killed when a gunman opened fire in the food court at a mall in suburban Chicago on Monday evening, and police said the gunman is still on the loose, according to news reports.
Shots rang out at the Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, Illinois, on Monday evening, sending shoppers running for cover.
A 19-year-old man was critically injured and later died at an area hospital, according to WBBM-TV.
The gunman was seen leaving the mall on foot, WLS-TV reported.
Police had cordoned off the mall and escorted shoppers out as they secured the premises.
A witness told WLS she took cover in a storage area inside a store in the mall.
Police said they believe the victim and the shooter knew each other and that the incident was an isolated event.
