Shots rang out at the Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, Illinois, on Monday evening, sending shoppers running for cover.

A 19-year-old man was critically injured and later died at an area hospital, according to WBBM-TV.

The gunman was seen leaving the mall on foot, WLS-TV reported.

Police had cordoned off the mall and escorted shoppers out as they secured the premises.

A witness told WLS she took cover in a storage area inside a store in the mall.

Police said they believe the victim and the shooter knew each other and that the incident was an isolated event.
