Two young girls were home alone when a stranger allegedly entered their home and was attacked by a pit bull.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Dayton police report.
The mother was just down the street and she called police then returned home when her 16-year-old daughter called her to tell her about the burglary, according to the report.
Police said the 16-year-old and her younger sister were upstairs when the man was attacked by the family dog.
When the mother arrived, she found the man, 48-year-old David Allen Polk, fighting to get the dog off his leg.
She went upstairs, got a handgun and returned to confront the man, who allegedly told her, “Get your dog or I’ll kill you,” according to the report.
Police said the 34-year-old mother pushed the gun up against the man’s chin and commanded her dog to stop, then told the man again to get out.
Police arrived just as Polk was exiting the home. He was handcuffed and taken to the hospital before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
