According to the Alaska Dispatch News, Ginger Frizzell found two large cephalopod arms on the shore of the Anchor River State Recreation Area during low tide on Wednesday.
She estimated the longer arm was 5-1/2 feet.
Frizzell had found two arms of what a scientist says may be a giant red octopus, which Homer-based fisheries biologist Dr. Ken Goldman said can reach 70 pounds and 14-foot arm lengths.
Frizzell told the ADN that it was the coolest thing she ever found. As of late Friday morning, the photos she posted to the Facebook page My Home is Alaska have been shared about 2,700 times.
She said she had people tell her they’ve lived there for 20 years and had never seen anything like it.
