A doctor in South Miami, Florida, has said she will no longer treat unvaccinated patients in person because it is not fair to others, according to reports.

Dr. Linda Marraccini thinks the policy, which is set to take effect Sept. 15, is in the best interest of her patients, many of whom are immunocompromised or undergoing chemotherapy, Newsweek reported.

“It’s not fair for people who are unvaccinated to harm other people,” Marraccini told Newsweek.

According to Marraccini, the policy does not violate the set of ethical standards known as the Hippocratic Oath because it follows science, the outlet reported.

“The Hippocratic Oath is very science-based. I am following the science. I’m applying this to the benefit of the sick,” Marraccini told Newsweek.

“Responsibility has to do with each individual,” she added. “This is a global health issue, and everyone owns part of that responsibility.”

Marraccini said she will still treat unvaccinated patients through virtual meetings, Newsweek reported, and that she would make exceptions if patients cannot get the vaccine due to hardships or for health reasons.

“We’re not going to leave them out there in the cold,” she said, according to Newsweek.
