Monday’s weather will set the template for the rest of the week with temperatures in the 90s and afternoon showers.

After the hottest day of the year so far on Sunday, temperatures in Atlanta will be a bit lower the rest of the week, according to the latest forecast. Monday’s predicted high is 91 degrees, down from Sunday’s high of 96.

“There is going to be rain, but it’s not going to be as hot as the weekend,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “Most of our days this week are going to be wet in the afternoon.”

There is a possibility for showers early, especially in the North Georgia mountains, but the weather will remain mostly dry for the morning commute, he said.

The day is already warm and humid, with temperatures in the mid-70′s and humidity at 79%. That heat and humidity will build throughout the day, setting the stage for typical summertime afternoon storms.

“If you’ve got stuff you want to do outside, try to do that in the morning. It’s not going to be wet until around 1 p.m.,” Monahan said. “Get ready for what’s going to be, for most of the week, a pretty stormy one.”

The morning commute is off to a relatively quiet start, according to WSB traffic reporter Mark Arum.

“A couple of early incidents, but overall not too bad,” he said.

As of 6 a.m., there were no major traffic delays on metro Atlanta interstates, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. A stalled vehicle briefly closed northbound lanes of I-285 near Camp Creek Parkway, but authorities quickly moved it to the shoulder, the Traffic Center reported.
