The city of Milton has reorganized its police department and its police chief says the result will be a more effective public safety operation.
Chief Steven Krokoff told the Milton City Council this week that that a new Support Services Division has been set up, in addition to the current uniform patrol and criminal investigation divisions. The change became effective Aug. 31.
Krokoff said the new division will centralize administrative functions, bringing such areas as police records, training, community response, internal investigations and public information under one umbrella. He said the change will allow the two operational divisions to focus on executing strategy instead of wearing several different hats.
"We need to improve our public safety outcomes," said Krokoff.
The police chief also said plans are in the works to improve training by setting up strategic partnerships with other agencies. He said that among training priorities is the need for improved accident investigation and reconstruction.
