Memorial Day showers may hold off through the afternoon after all.
Earlier forecasts called for isolated showers to develop in metro Atlanta by about 3 p.m., but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said Monday that a "big ridge of high pressure" was preventing the showers from developing. Clouds were "bubbling up," she said, but showers may arrive as late as 7 p.m. — meaning Memorial Day cookouts and other festivities should be good to go.
“Most of you will be able to get those in during the day,” Minton said.
Some of the showers moving in Monday evening could produce “very heavy rain,” Minton said.
Rain is expected to stick around the rest of the week as well, with a 70 percent chance of rain forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday and a 60 percent chance on Thursday.
