Forsyth County investigators believe excessive speed contributed to a New Year’s Day wreck that killed a 27-year-old man.
Forrest Bushong, of Cumming, struck a tree near the intersection of Samples Road and Samples Lane around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Sgt. Josh Watson with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. Bushong died at the scene of the single-vehicle wreck, Watson said.
Bushong is one of four killed on state roads during the New Year’s holiday period, which began Wednesday at 6 p.m. and runs until midnight Sunday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Late Wednesday, Stevie Tucker, 42, of Atlanta, was struck and killed by a vehicle as he walked on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Brownlee Road, according to police. The driver of a Nissan Maxima told investigators he had just left church when he hit Tucker, Atlanta police said. The crash remains under investigation.
Anyone wishing to assist Tucker's family with funeral costs is asked to contact William Gayleano Murray and Son Funeral Home.
Two fatal wrecks were also reported in Thomaston and Statesboro, according to the DPS.
Last year, one person was killed in a wreck during the New Year’s holiday period, which was 30 hours due to the holiday falling on a Wednesday.
