Cobb County authorities don’t expect to file charges against the driver who struck and killed a man attempting to cross a major roadway on foot Wednesday night.

Cobb County Police Department spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said 29-year-old Mableton resident Lionel H. Noel was struck by a Toyota Camry at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday while he was trying to cross five lanes of Mableton Parkway near South Gordon Road. Police believe Noel was not in a crosswalk.

He later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

“The pedestrian was not only struck by the driver of the Toyota,” Pierce said, “but it is believed he was struck by a second vehicle which did not stop at the scene.”

The driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old Mableton man, was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Pierce said no charges were expected to be filed in the case, but asked that anyone with information to call 770-499-3987.
