A previously convicted felon remained in the Fayette County jail Thursday on $455,000 bond after leading officers on a high-speed chase, according to police.

A Peachtree City officer attempted a traffic stop on Darryl Lambert, 54, of College Park, Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Ga. 74 and Crosstown Drive, police said. But Lambert failed to stop, even when his passenger got out of the moving vehicle.

Lambert drove recklessly, nearly hitting nearby construction workers, leading officers to deploy “stop sticks” to deflate his tires, according to police.

"The driver of the vehicle continued, driving at speeds over 80 mph on the shoulder of the road, even after his tires were disabled and disintegrating," Peachtree City police said in a Facebook post.

Lambert alleged weaved through traffic while driving northbound on Ga. 74, and when officers attempted to box in his vehicle, Lambert struck a patrol car, according to police. Driving only on bare rims, Lambert continued onto Hip Pocket Road toward Willowbend Road.

“Due to the lack of regard for human life shown by the driver, the decision was made to remove the car from the roadway as safely and diligently as possible,” police said.

When Lambert’s vehicle slowed down, an officer was able to use a patrol vehicle’s equipped push bar to hit the back of Lambert’s car, ending the pursuit, police said. Lambert was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Fayette County jail.

Lambert’s charges include: fleeing and attempt to elude, aggravated assaulted on law enforcement officer, reckless driving, hit and run, suspended license, speeding (30+ over), failure to maintain lane, passing on right, driving on wrong side of roadway, stop sign violations, improper turn or lane change, disregard traffic control device, driving through a gore, seat belt violation and littering on highway.

He was being held Thursday on $455,430 bond, jail records showed.
