A 97-year-old woman, reported missing by her daughter, took a bus from Atlanta to Fayetteville, N.C., and showed up at a relative's front door, unexpected, around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

DeKalb County police said Mary Helen Walker began her 370-mile journey from her house in Stone Mountain while her daughter was away Monday morning.

Police said she walked a short distance to a nearby MARTA station, pulling a suitcase on wheels behind her. She took a MARTA train to downtown Atlanta where she boarded a bus for Fayetteville, according to Sgt. Sylvester Simmons.

Police said the daughter learned her mother had left her house in the 4000 block of Armswood Place in DeKalb County when a neighbor called around 10 a.m. Monday to report seeing Walker walking on John Alden Road with a suitcase. They called police around 3:30 p.m. after their search attempts failed.
